Thinking Aloud: Country Threat Index

Apr. 3, 2015 by Darius

Have you ever wanted to know exactly which countries were suffering from terrorism and rebel activity and how much?  No?  Well, I have.  Fortunately, I recently came across the IntelCenter Country Threat Index.

The CTI tracks terrorist and rebel activity around the world.  As of April 1, the top countries are, predictably, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.  Filling out the top ten are Nigeria, Somalia, Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Egypt, and Tunisia.  These aren’t the only countries with problems, though: 39 countries have a CTI score above zero, including the United States and Italy.

The complete IntelCenter database is only available if you have a lot of money to spare, but he basic CTI is freely available and updated constantly.  You can find it at http://intelcenter.com/maps/cti.html.
